It has been far too long since I posted an update! I suppose that's because it feels like there isn't much to update. There were two birth moms that looked at our profile book this summer and chose other families. Things have been pretty quiet since then. Our agency told us when we went active this summer that on average it takes 1-2 years for a family to get matched so we expected that we would still be waiting at this point. Does that make the wait easier? Not particularly. Waiting for something you long for is tough; I can't wait to snuggle another squishy baby close to my heart and see Lily as a big sister. We are doing our best to keep living life to the full in the meantime and enjoy this time as a family of 3.
I read something in my Bible study last week that both convicted and encouraged me: "Joyful submission to waiting produces humility, trust and patience...Are you patiently and actively waiting while God prepares you for future ministry?" (BSF, Acts and the Letters of the Apostles, Lesson 6, Pg 4). What a concept! To actively wait. I don't think I did that very well when we were waiting to get matched to Lily. I struggled to know how much to commit to for fear of seeming flaky when I'd inevitably have to pull back once we had a baby. I think our agency coached us on that really well when we were going through training. They encouraged us to continue living life because we just don't know the timing and there's so much we could miss out on if we are constantly putting things on hold "just in case." I'm grateful for the way that having a spunky, energetic toddler right now helps me stay more engaged in actively waiting. As you can see in the pictures above, she is growing up so fast and we are having so much fun watching it happen. Thank you for your prayers in this season, it means so much. Please continue to not only pray for us, but for our future birth mom. Whatever is going on in her life that leads her to place her baby for adoption is a heavy weight. We long for her to know the peace and love of Christ.

I thought it was time to share a quick update. As of today, all of our paperwork for our home study is done! **HOORAY** The next step of our home study is our interviews, the first of which is scheduled for May 8. We will have two more after that. Then, it will be time for us to get our profile book together for birth moms to look over.
Tomorrow and Saturday we have 8 hour training days with our agency. Would you pray for us during that time? That we'd be able to retain information and it would be a sweet time together for Jacob and I as we look forward to adding another kiddo to our family? As Mother's Day approaches, Lily's birth mom is heavy on my heart. Would you please lift her up too and ask that God would overwhelm her with His peace and joy? If you haven't gotten a shirt yet and want one, you have 4 days to order one! https://www.bonfire.com/forbes-family-adoption/ What is better than one adoption?? A second adoption!! We are so looking forward to seeing Lily in the role of big sister and to grow our family again.
Some things you may be wondering... We are pursuing another infant, domestic adoption. We are open to either a boy or girl! Because we live in Colorado now, we have to start the entire home study process over as it is state dependent. Thankfully, the process is not quite so daunting this time because we have done it before. It is still SO. MUCH. PAPERWORK. I heard someone once compare the paperwork of an adoption to the morning sickness of a pregnancy. If that's the case, we are super nauseous, ha! We chose to work with a local agency this time. There are two main reasons for that. First, it should help keep the cost down a bit. Second, if we get matched with a birth mom desiring more of an open relationship, Colorado is the place to do it! Even if we don't get stationed here again (we hope we do!), it feels like home base. Jacob and I both went to college here, my family is here...we will always have a reason to come back to visit. Our agency told us to expect it to take 1-2 years to get matched. Because we will only be stationed in Colorado just over two more years, we needed to get a jump on the process to give us the chance to make the most of our time here. It's basically a "hurry up and wait" situation. We are kicking off our first fundraiser as part of this announcement. Head over to the "fundraising" tab to find our how to order a T-shirt. Please pray for... -our sanity as we try to get our home study paperwork done as quickly as possible -our marriage and unity with the pressure of getting our home study done quickly -our future birth mom and baby -financial provision Thank you for being excited with us and for cheering us on from near and far! |
